Action Research
As I set out to read our assignment this week, I brainstormed with myself (go figure, I am a first grade teacher and model this daily) to see what kind of background knowledge I could draw upon when thinking about the words "action research." I tried to break down the words and meaning like I would with my students....And it is exactly what it sounds like: taking action on something that has been researched! I think I wanted it to be more complicated than it really was. Action research is the deliberate reflection and
reaction to instructional practices and student learning. It is taking the time
to identify an issue, explore research concerning methods of intervention,
implementing and tracking the interventions through data collection, and
lastly, reflecting again on progress, growth and/or redirection. I am really excited about this class and learning the steps needed to dig deeper into areas of concern or issues within our own schools and make improvements. I am looking forward to working closely with my site supervisor as we create a plan for me. I am eager to show others around me what action research is and I hope to lead by example. Most importantly, I value the power of reflection and look forward to making it a priority in my week. I truly feel that all teachers should be reflecting and questioning strategies and interventions to ensure the highest of success for our students.
Thanks for stopping by!
